OTR Tire Shredding: Wrong Equipment Wastes Your Money

OTR mining tires reach 1400mm diameter with bead wires thick as your finger. Feed them into a standard shredder, and you get cracked blades, burned motors, and wasted investment. Choosing an OTR tire shredder is not about capacity numbers — it is about whether the machine can swallow these giants.

Why Standard Shredders Cannot Handle OTR Tires

The difference between OTR and truck tires goes beyond size:

SpecificationTruck TiresOTR Mining Tires
Diameter900-1200mm1800-4000mm
Bead wire diameter6-10mm15-25mm
Weight per tire50-80kg500-4000kg
Rubber thickness15-20mm50-150mm

SL-900 and SL-1200 inlets max out at 1200mm diameter with 50-60mm blade thickness. Facing 25mm OTR bead wire, the blades do not cut — they crash. After a few impacts, blade edges chip and crack.

OTR Capability: SL-1500 vs SL-1800

Only SL-1500 and SL-1800 in the Shuliy lineup handle OTR tires, with different boundaries.

ModelMax Inlet DiameterBlade ThicknessOTR Range
SL-15001200mm75mmSmall OTR (1800-2500mm tires)
SL-18001400mm100mmFull OTR range (up to 4000mm tires)

SL-1500 handles some small OTR tires, but only after sectioning. The SL-1800’s 1400mm inlet and 100mm blades swallow whole mining tires directly.

Essential OTR Preprocessing Steps

Even the SL-1800 works better with preprocessing. Preparation extends blade life and improves output.

Step 1: Remove the Bead

Use an OTR debeader to extract the wire bead. That 25mm steel ring is the biggest threat to your blades. Removing it triples blade life. The extracted beads sell separately to steel mills.

Step 2: Cut into Sections

Use a hydraulic tire cutter to slice OTR tires into 50-100kg sections. Benefits include smoother feeding, even chamber loading, and better output size control.

Section size should stay below 80% of your shredder inlet size, leaving safety margin.

OTR Shredding Line Equipment List

A standalone shredder cannot complete OTR recycling. You need a complete production line:

  1. OTR debeader: Removes wire beads, protecting downstream equipment
  2. Hydraulic cutter: Sections whole tires into processable sizes
  3. Heavy-duty conveyor: Handles 500kg+ tire sections — standard belts collapse
  4. SL-1800 shredder: Core size reduction equipment
  5. Magnetic separator: Extracts steel fragments from shredded output
  6. Vibrating screen: Grades rubber chips by size

This configuration costs significantly more than standard tire lines, but OTR tire recovery value is higher. Single OTR tires contain 10-20x the steel of truck tires and dozens of times more rubber.

Conclusion

Processing OTR tires requires more than buying a high-power shredder. OTR tire shredder selection depends on inlet size, blade thickness, and overall structural strength. The SL-1800 is currently the only Shuliy model that directly processes 1400mm OTR tires. Combined with debeading and cutting preprocessing, you can recycle these mining giants efficiently.
